Roseland Postcard Exchange

Visitors to Roseland at Bonhoga Gallery in Shetland are invited to take part in the first Roseland Postcard Exchange. They may take a free postcard to send to anyone anywhere in the world. So far cards are going to America, Canada, England, Austria and Shetland. Visitors may send as many cards as they like. There is only one condition - they need to leave their card on the Roseland Postcard Trellis as part of the exhibition. They can collect it on the last day of the exhibition or leave it to be posted at a later date. They may find that they will one day receive a postcard from a visitor to Roseland from another part of the country or wider world.

Exhibition Transforms Gallery

Roseland opened at Bonhoga Gallery Friday 19th May 2006 for four weeks. The installation is inspired by a summerhouse set in a rose garden. The gallery space has been transformed by a carpeted floor, the windows are filled with light boxes, the light is 'rose-tinted' and a soundtrack of birds song makes the gallery feel summery. Hundreds of objects that are pink or based on the motif of the rose are displayed in glass cabinets, shelves and plinths. Unusually, all the cases and plinths are mounted on wheels. Roseland T-shirts are available for purchase throughout the exhibition, and during the second week the gallery space will be used for a plant exchange with pupils from Hamnavoe School. There are many Roselands throughout the world, and there is a set of maps derived from these. In June Roseland at Bonhoga Gallery will be linked to a mobile Garden Shed in the village of Roydon in Epping Forest on the outskirts of London as part of Common or Garden, organised by Epping Forest Arts. A plant exchange will take place there.
